International education and study abroad programs have long been recognized as transforming and enriching college students’ education experience, and emerging research studies have affirmed the value-added nature of a comprehensive international education program. The preliminary data on study abroad programs revealed an unintended but much welcomed outcome – an increase in students’ college achievement and persistence, especially in racial and ethnic minority and underserved populations. In this session, the Foreign Language International Education Office director and the Hispanic-Serving Institutions Division director will discuss how funding from the two programs may be used to support Latino students’ academic achievement and college completion utilizing study abroad programs.
Speakers:
Dr. Sonia Feigenbaum, Director - Hispanic Serving Institutions Division, US Department of Education - Office of Postsecondary Education
